Is this what we mean by “SMALLER government”?

I’ve been wondering for some time if my party had been hijacked by small-minded holier-than-thou individuals and today I have proof. The Montana republican-led house judiciary committee tabled a bill previously passed by the senate to remove  language from a law making homosexuality a felony.  I was disgusted that 9 republicans in the senate voted against it but was impressed that it did eventually pass the senate.  Not so in the house.

This bill, sponsored by Sen. Tom Facey should have been a no-brainer.  The Montana Supreme Court as well as the United States Supreme Court has already ruled the law unconstitutional, but this is of no consequence to Montana GOP representatives.  I’m a conservative, but I utilize something much of the party has forgotten about- common sense.  We are alienating a segment of our population simply because they don’t have sex the same way as the legislators do (or the way they will admit to anyway).  If you find homosexuality immoral, don’t be one.  If you find medical cannabis immoral, don’t use it.  I find hatred and bigotry immoral, but that is just me…..

There are so many issues in which both parties should be able to find common ground…. but it isn’t happening.  This website began as a conservative blog poking fun at socialism and other dangerous political agendas- but has been forced to focus on our own party since the beginning of the session.  That is truly sad.  Where does a fiscally conservative, socially libertarian chick go?

  1. This moderate doesn’t know. Because the whole Helena thing is a putrid mess.
Republicans thinking government should bust down doors and invade bedrooms and haul people off to prison, jack booted sex troopers.

Democrats who couldn’t balance a pocketful of change.

    • It is a sad state of affairs, isn’t it? I don’t consider myself moderate, but maybe I am. I’m not a fan of what is happening in Helena, that’s for sure. It will prove to be a disaster for our party….. I’m a fiscal conservative social libertarian I guess…

  2. I, too, am a fiscally conservative, socially libertarian woman. The only politician I can find who even comes close to thinking like I do is Ron Paul. These clowns are not Republicans. Republicans believe in personal freedom, small government, and staying out of people’s lives. There aren’t any of those guys with Republican labels in the 2011 Montana legislature. We were all excited about the TEA party until it became apparent that they aren’t what they say they are. They’re a bunch of facists.

    • Nice to meet a like-minded woman! I am quite sure there are more of us out there, but I wish they’d speak up. I’m a big Ron Paul fan although I don’t believe he will ever be elected President, which is very unfortunate. While I’m glad we were able to see everyone’s true colors this session, I agree that there are very few good ones right now. I appreciate a few of them though- particularly those who were willing to stand up to leadership and vote for what is right, not what Milburn and Essmann desired. I was impressed that some freshmen in the house were brave enough.
